The Difference Between Memory Foam & Horsehair Mattresses

Every night you sweat the equivalent of a glass of water into your mattress.
Today we are going to look at two mattress materials and how they deal with this.

The first is Memory foam. It works by reacting to the heat of your body. As it warms it becomes softer and moulds to the shape of your body. Once you get out of bed, it cools and returns to it’s normal shape. It was invented by NASA and has become widely used in cheaper mattresses.

The drawback to Memory foam is that it holds the heat created from your body and doesn’t expel the moisture away from the bed. This leaves you too hot in warmer months and feeling sweaty in the colder months.

Horsehair is a natural material that has been used for centuries. It’s spun into a rope then heat processed so that it becomes a very springy and supportive material.

It’s also open celled and hollow which means if you were to soak it in water and give it a shake, it would dry almost instantly.

Unlike memory foam, horsehair doesn’t retain any moisture. The moisture and hot air is actually vented away from the mattress creating an ambient temperature around your body throughout all seasons.

Horsehair really is the ultimate natural material to use in a mattress and the perfect choice to help control temperature and expel moisture while you are sleeping.
